Joomla hosting requirements
Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 need a supported PHP version, a MySQL or MariaDB database, and a web server that caches dynamic pages well. Joomla lists the exact versions on its technical requirements page.
- Web server: LiteSpeed Web Server with LSCache for Joomla.
- Storage: NVMe SSD on every plan, the same as our NVMe SSD shared hosting.
- SSL: free SSL for your admin area and your visitors.
- Testing: staging, so you can try a Joomla update before it goes live.
Running an extension that needs a specific PHP module? Ask our support team before you move, and we’ll check it with you.
Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 hosting checklist
Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 need a modern PHP and database stack, and a host that won’t fight your extensions when you update. Use this checklist to compare Joomla hosts.
What we align to
- PHP for current Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 releases, which you pick in your hosting panel. Joomla.org lists PHP 8.1 or newer for Joomla 5 and PHP 8.3 or newer for Joomla 6.
- MySQL or MariaDB for Joomla’s database layer.
- LiteSpeed Web Server with LSCache support for Joomla on every plan.
- NVMe SSD storage for files and database I/O (10 / 25 / 50 GB by plan).
- One-click Joomla install, plus staging so you can test before you go live.
- Free SSL on every plan.
- Free best-effort migration help when you move from another host.
- Support from people who work in Joomla day to day (Official Joomla Service Provider).
What this means for you
You shouldn’t have to dig through a generic hosting FAQ to learn whether Joomla 5 or Joomla 6 will run. When you compare hosts on PHP, storage, caching, staging and migration, hold each one to these answers.
LiteSpeed, LSCache, and NVMe for Joomla
Speed claims are easy to make and hard to prove. Here’s exactly what runs Joomla hosting at Simple Source Solutions (getsimple.net):
| Layer | What you get | Why Joomla cares |
|---|---|---|
| LiteSpeed Web Server | Replaces a classic Apache-only shared stack | Handles concurrent dynamic requests efficiently |
| LSCache for Joomla | Server-level LSCache with the Joomla LSCache extension | Keeps dynamic Joomla pages snappy |
| NVMe SSD | Plan storage on NVMe (10 / 25 / 50 GB by plan) | NVMe SSD storage for files and database |
| Isolation | Isolated hosting environments | Less noisy-neighbor risk on shared-style plans |
| Backups | Off-server backups are included on one schedule, at least 48 hours apart, and are kept for 30 days. | Restore points when an update goes wrong |
Each plan lists its NVMe storage. When a cache or extension conflict shows up, our support team knows Joomla.

How to choose the best Joomla hosting
Most “best Joomla hosting” lists rank big brands by their first-term price. For a working Joomla site, these five checks matter more:
- Renewal price. Check what you pay after the first term. Our plans keep the same price at renewal.
- Joomla support. Ask a Joomla question before you buy. We’re an Official Joomla Service Provider with 24/7/365 support.
- Staging. Core and extension updates can break a template, so test on a staging copy first.
- Backups. Ask how often backups run, where they are kept, and for how long.
- Room for your site. Check the disk, RAM and vCPU on the plan, and ask whether you can move to a bigger plan at its listed price.
Install Joomla from your hosting panel
Install Joomla from your hosting panel. For a new website:
- Open your hosting panel and go to Websites.
- Select Add website, then choose Install an app.
- Select Joomla and enter your domain, or use a preview until DNS is ready.
- Set the Joomla admin email, username and password, then select Add.
Already have a website on your plan? Open it, go to Apps and select Install app. Our guide has the full steps: Install Joomla.
Joomla 6, extensions and LSCache
Joomla’s technical requirements page says Joomla 6 needs PHP 8.3 or newer and Joomla 5 needs PHP 8.1 or newer. Before you install Joomla 6, switch your site to PHP 8.3 or newer in your hosting panel.
Your database runs on MariaDB. It’s compatible with MySQL, so Joomla installs the same way. See MySQL on your hosting plan.
Install extensions from your Joomla admin as usual. For page caching, add the LSCache extension for Joomla, which works with the LiteSpeed Web Server on every plan. Our guide shows you how to install the LSCache extension on Joomla.
Moving from Joomla 5 to Joomla 6? Make a staging copy, run the update there, check your template and extensions, then update the live site.
Security and backups for Joomla
Many Joomla security problems start with an outdated core or extension. Here’s what every plan includes to help you stay current safely:
- Isolated hosting environments, for less noisy-neighbor risk from other accounts.
- Free SSL for your admin area and your visitors.
- Staging, so you can test a security update before it goes live.
- Off-server backups on one schedule, at least 48 hours apart, kept for 30 days. They include your databases.
- Restore a backup yourself from your hosting panel, on every plan.
Keep Joomla and every extension up to date, and remove extensions you no longer use.
Staging before you go live
Staging copies: Starter 1, Simple 2, Business 3.
Update Joomla core, a template or a key extension on your live site, and a quiet evening can turn into an emergency. Staging lets you break things safely first.
How it works on your hosting panel
- Open your hosting panel for the Joomla site.
- Create a staging copy of the site, or clone it when you need a full copy.
- Run the update, extension change or redesign on staging, then check the front end and admin.
- When everything works, make the same change on your live site.
Every Joomla plan includes one-click installation and staging. Use staging for version jumps, PHP changes and any extension that touches checkout, membership or multilingual content.
How free Joomla migration works
Switching hosts shouldn’t cost you a weekend of manual exports and broken links. New accounts include free best-effort WordPress and Joomla migration from your current host. Ask through a support ticket in your Get Simple account, or move the site yourself.
Typical steps
- Choose a plan. Pick Starter, Simple or Business by NVMe storage and resources. Each plan hosts one site.
- Open a migration request. Send a support ticket from your Get Simple account with where the site lives now and when you’d like to switch over. Or move it yourself if you prefer.
- The move. We move your site for you at no extra cost, on a best-effort basis. Our support team brings your files, database and configuration into your new account, so you’re not stuck exporting and importing alone.
- Preview before DNS. When a temporary preview is available, check the site there before you switch DNS.
- Update DNS. Point your domain once the files are ready. SSL is free on every plan.
- Check after the move. Test extensions, admin login, forms and cache (LSCache), and our support team can help if you need it.
What we need from you
- Control panel or FTP/SFTP access at your old host, or a support contact there who can help
- Which domain and Joomla site are moving
- A maintenance window, if your site gets a lot of traffic
We plan each switchover carefully.
Why choose a specialist Joomla host
Generic shared hosting can install Joomla. The trouble shows up later: PHP mismatches, cache plugins fighting each other, no staging, and support scripts written by people who have never opened a Joomla admin.
Simple Source Solutions is an Official Joomla Service Provider. We built our Joomla hosting around:
- People who understand Joomla extensions and updates
- LiteSpeed + LSCache and NVMe sized for real CMS sites
- Staging and one-click install so changes are testable
- Free best-effort migration when you leave a generic host
- Isolated environments and free SSL, plus off-server backups that run on one schedule, at least 48 hours apart, kept for 30 days.
Each plan hosts one Joomla site, in a clear size. Most brochure and membership sites don’t need a big plan on day one. If you outgrow yours, ask our support team about the next step instead of guessing from a big-host comparison chart. Running a nonprofit? Verified 501(c)(3) organizations can get 10% off with nonprofit web hosting.

Joomla hosting FAQ
What is Joomla hosting?
Joomla hosting is web hosting configured for the Joomla CMS, including PHP/MySQL, one-click install, staging, and a stack tuned for Joomla extensions and updates.
Why choose Simple Source for Joomla?
We are an Official Joomla Service Provider. Plans include NVMe SSD storage, LiteSpeed with LSCache for Joomla, free SSL, free migration, staging, and 24/7/365 support from people who work in Joomla.
Do you migrate my existing Joomla site?
Yes. We move your site for you at no extra cost, on a best-effort basis. You are not stuck with manual export/import.
Is Joomla hosting on LiteSpeed and NVMe?
Yes. Joomla plans use NVMe SSD storage and LiteSpeed Web Server with server-level caching (LSCache).
Can I stage and test changes?
Yes. One-click Joomla installation and staging are included so you can test updates before they go live.
How much does Joomla hosting cost?
Starter is $10/mo (1 Joomla site, 10 GB NVMe, 1 TB fair-use bandwidth), Simple is $20/mo (1 site, 25 GB, 3 TB), and Business is $49/mo (1 site, 50 GB, 8 TB fair use). Each plan is one site. The price on the plan is the renewal price. See Hosting plans: Starter, Simple, and Business.
Can I host more than one Joomla site on one plan?
No. Each plan is one site. If you need another site, order another plan.
Is email included with Joomla hosting?
Starter: no email. Bring your own. Simple includes 2 mailboxes, 5 GB each; upgrades to 5 or 10. Business includes 5 mailboxes, 5 GB each, with options up to 25 mailboxes at 10 GB each. A full mailbox is a mail upgrade, not a site-disk problem.
Is managed Joomla hosting worth it?
If “managed” means someone else owns the server OS while you only get a ticket bot, maybe not. If it means Joomla-aware support, staging, migration help, and a stack already tuned for Joomla (LiteSpeed, LSCache, NVMe), it usually costs less than one failed upgrade weekend. Simple Source plans include those pieces on the plans above; we do not sell a separate managed Joomla SKU.
Which plan fits my Joomla site?
Most Joomla brochure, blog, and modest membership sites fit Starter, Simple, or Business on our isolated environments. When you need more than the Business plan, ask support about the next step before you overbuy. Start on the plan that matches storage and resources for that one site.
Are you listed as a Joomla Service Provider?
Yes. Simple Source Solutions is listed in the official Joomla Service Providers Directory under Hosting Providers and Consulting.
How do I install Joomla?
Open your hosting panel, go to Websites, select Add website, choose Install an app and select Joomla. On a website you already have, open Apps and select Install app.
Can I use Joomla extensions and LSCache?
Yes. Install extensions from your Joomla admin. For page caching, add the LSCache extension for Joomla, which works with the LiteSpeed Web Server on every plan.
Can I restore a backup myself?
Yes. Off-server backups run on one schedule, at least 48 hours apart, are kept for 30 days and include your databases. You can restore one yourself from your hosting panel on every plan.
What is the best Joomla hosting for my site?
Look past the first-term price. Compare the renewal price, Joomla-aware support, staging, how often backups run and how long they are kept, and the disk, RAM and vCPU on each plan. Our plans renew at the published plan price, with no intro discount.
Do you support Joomla 6?
Yes. Joomla 6 needs PHP 8.3 or newer, so switch your site to PHP 8.3 or newer in your hosting panel first. Test the move from Joomla 5 on a staging copy, then update the live site.
Is Joomla still used?
Yes. Joomla is free, open source and actively developed. Joomla 6 is the current major release, and Joomla 5 gets security fixes until October 2027. Detailed user permissions and multilingual support are built in, so it suits membership sites and sites in more than one language.
What are the downsides of Joomla?
Joomla takes a little longer to learn than some other systems, and it has fewer extensions than WordPress. Major version updates can also break older extensions or templates. That is why every plan here includes staging, so you can test an update on a copy before it reaches your live site.
Joomla or WordPress: which should I host?
Pick the one your site already uses or your team knows. Joomla suits sites that need detailed user roles and several languages built in. WordPress has more themes and plugins. Each plan here hosts one site, Joomla or WordPress. We move your site for you at no extra cost, on a best-effort basis.
How much does Joomla cost?
The Joomla software is free. You pay for hosting and a domain. Our plan prices are listed above, and they stay the same when you renew.
